Cozy co-op: Brooklyn, NY
Another pre-war building, this renovated cooperative was equipped with original hardwood flooring and curved archways. We infused color + pattern to pair with our client’s Afro-Transitional style.
The task was to incorporate what wasn’t changing such as the sofa, bedroom furniture and the existing paint. Some vintage furniture shopping helped to complement the client’s style and lifestyle. The coffee table base was stained to pair with the warmth within the design. The added storage plus the ability to display coffee table books under the glass without having to compromise on table space is a bonus. The original coffee table turned out to be just slightly too narrow, making it a better fit for a behind-the-sofa storage + plant moment. IKEA woven baskets fit perfectly and complement the bohemian elements nicely.
The lamp was thrifted with the utmost intention to consider the client’s Trinidadian heritage as the base resembles a traditional steel pan. A chalkboard was painted onto the kitchen wall to organize meal ideas. Art with black frames were added next to the chalk paint to create a gallery corner leading as a backdrop to the coffee station.
